2009 W211 E350
Hi, I own a 2009 e350. I would like to make sure that it is not in the bad range of balance shaft problem.

VIN WDB2110561B372740
Engine 272964 31 021706

Car needs new intake manifold along with other wear and tear repairs.
I would like to be 100% sure it will not have a balance shaft issue before I further invest into it.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Balance shaft only affected all of 2006 and some early 2007 models. The 2008/2009 models should be fine.
Change oil breather cover and oil separator when doing the intake manifold.

Thank you for your response. So my understanding is that I am clear of the possibility of balance shaft problem, if I’m correct.
Yes I will have the entire breather cover kit changed at the same time including the oil separator when doing the manifold. I’m also planning on using the metal rod and lever repair kit with a new intake manifold to ensure it’s not gonna brake again. After that should I expect trouble free years out of the car with regular maintenance since it only has 77 000 miles?
How is longevity/reliability on these cars? Any other serious problems I should expect?

I wouldn't waste money on the metal rod/lever repair kit. Just get the intake from FCPEuro, they have a lifetime warranty on all the parts they sell. The lever breaking or the rods going tells you that the flaps are starting to get gummed up. If you replace those items so they don't break, the flaps will probably just break first and fall into the engine causing engine damage. I would just keep an eye on the breather cover/oil separator and change them as needed and you'll probably get at least another 80-120k or more out of the intake before it goes again.

Good point about the repair kit. Now I’m thinking about returning it and just replacing the manifold from Fcp euro.
How often should the breather cover set be replaced?
