SBC Hold keeps you stopped at, say, a traffic light without you having to keep your foot on the brake.
SBC Stop automatically slows you down in stop and go traffic.
Apparently these features aren't available in U.S. W211s. I would have liked the hold feature
Maybe they'll be available in 04. I know the BMW 745s have a hold feature.

I assume to have SBC stop, you would have to have the Distronic Cruise Control as well, correct? Because without this the car would not know how close you are to the other car infront of you in stop and go traffic.

The SBC hold is independent of the Distronic. It just slows the car down gradually once you get off the gas pedal but you have to press the brake if it doesn't slow you down quick enough.

So i took it into the drive way and activated it there, this is what it looks like, a few points about sbc-h
To activate it you have to depress the brake pedal fully, which is so much easier and more functional than the retarded button bimmer have got in their new 7, mb wins another one, but then again, what would you ecpect from the company that gave you idrive
When your slowing down at the light, you cant just continue to depress the pedal completley, i guess this is to safeguard against the car staying in its place too long after an emergency stop and getting rammed from behind or something, you have to lift slightly to signal that your happy with your current position (ie the car dosent creep just a slight lift of pressure) and then depress the brake pedal fully and viola!
To get moving you either give the brake pedal a little prod or just accelerate, which is particulary nice coz you get a rather instaneous forward motion as apposed to mb's characteristic comfort oriented throtle, the car doesnt lunge forward or anything , none of your passengers or the nearby cars will notice, but its a nice feeling, could be fun for racing, if thats your thing

I've read for ages on this board about the touchy brakes that gives your passengers that old fuzzy 'im a teenager learning how to drive' feeling, now if only people looked forwrd to that sort of thing. The upside to SBC is every other car i drive now feels like its got mushy brakes, its like the mb's system is challenging you, i approach lights doin 60 and its as if its sayin fine dont brake yet, i dont care, always still stops me at the line without breakin a sweat, really impressive
