Question VIM (Video In Motion) Module

I have a 2009 E350 4Matic wagon (June '08 build) and want to install a backup cmera. Does anyone know if I have to have a VIM module to activate the camera function in the Comand unit? I talked with Mid-City Engr. and they said their conversion kit had to have a VIM because some of the backup camera programing is inside their $500 VIM ($700 including camera). I was hoping that someone made a kit w/o the VIM function as I do not want to view DVD's while the Benz is in motion.
