AIRMATIC SUSPENSION NIGHTMARE

Car is completely down on all 4 corners with the "stop car too low" sign. I couldnt get it on a flatbed so I slowly drove it to my tech. He had a rep from MB come over with the computer to gather the passenger sensor and rear sensor went bad. Replaced both and only the back went up. After a few days of configuring the front went up but the back is down now.

Just my luck the rep from MB has been admitted to the hospital for a few days and now the car is sitting up in the front like its ready to take off.

I cannot remember anyone reporting about sensor failures before, perhaps I've just missed that. It would be so much better if you could have the car diagnosed yourself or have a friend of yours do it. Then you would not have to speculate what really happened.

Is your Airmatic compressor original and the wiring harness has been carefully inspected?

This is the biggest fear from most E55 and E63 owners, not the engine or the transmission but the suspension.

Compressor and wiring harness is original, The MB tech is suppose to return today to figure it out, hopefully it can be fixed without any major issues.

has anyone come up with a spring conversion yet? Range rover owners have the same problems with their airmatic suspensions and there are several companies that offer spring conversion kits that also have plug in modules so that there are not any errors on the dash or computer systems.

I read a thread a few months ago, that someone has come out with the spring conversion kit from the E500. And I asked my AMG tech about this, and he told me yes it will in fact work. let me see if I can still find it. I've searched but couldn't find the post. Basically a gentlemen, retrofitted his E55, from the spring suspension of a E500, he claimed that the conversion was straight forward. But he did say, the you must disable the airmatic suspension in STAR. I can see the benefits of not having to worry about failures, but now you can raise the car, to negotiate driveways or speed bumps. But their are pros & cons to both I suppose.
