Where is Dipstick / Oil Extraction Tube on '08 E350
All:
I am planning to change the oil in my '08 E350 for the first time. Upon removing the front piece of the engine cover I was easily able to locate the oil filter.
However, my owner's manual says there is a red dipstick located behind the engine (near the firewall) slightly to the passenger side.
When I look back there there isn't a dipstick, and the only tube is capped with a red cap that can't easily be removed and say "MB Shop Only". This appears to lead back to the transmission as well.
What I did find is a red dipstick on the front of the engine, near the passenger side headlights. I pulled it and that appears to be the engine oil. However, I wanted to be sure as this goes against what the owner's manual says.
So, am I right, is this dipstick in front of the engine the engine oil?

My non-4Matic 08 dipstick is found on the back side of the engine, just left of center towards the passenger side. Instead of the dip stick cap being "red" like yours, mine is yellow.

Great post
I am preparing myself for our cars first oil change and also found that the manual had me looking for a red dipstick towards the back of the engine. My 2009 E350 has a yellow dipstick back there, so I am assuming that is where my extractor will go when I pull the oil. Saved me from posting again...
