Anyone replace the LCD on w211 Comand Unit

I hate the thought of paying over a thousand dollars to replace my comand unit. It plays everything but the display flakes out from time to time. Is it possible to change the LCD screen on a comand unit? I'm tempted to take it on, I just wonder if anyone else has done this successfully.
