Newbie MB owner. 2008 E550. Oil leak covered by warranty?

Great info on this forum. I just bought my first Mercedes last week - a 2008 E550 with less than 30,000 miles, Certified PreOwned. I've noticed an oil leak on the driveway in the morning. Do I just take it in to the dealer and say take care of it under warranty?

Thanks for any insight on warranty coverage. (I extended it to 135,000 miles so I hope that was a good investment.)

I'm not a car guy.

Since you bought it a week ago, CPO, I would definitely bring it in to the dealer and get it checked. How much oil on the driveway?

If they did an oil change at purchase and got sloppy, it could be spillage that dripped off the engine. Or it could be leaking at a gasket, seal, etc.

Either way, I'd get it to the dealer asap. Mine does not leak or drip a drop!

Good luck.

p.s. the oil filler cap is on tightly I presume?

I think there is a MB DTB or something about oil leaking from the engine cams or something like that. This was covered on my CPO car under warranty. In fact I did not even know it was leaking. I had taken the car in to get a rattling noise fixed at the dealership and they found the leak on their own and fixed it under warranty.

Oil leaks are covered by warranty.

Typical leak on your M273 engine is from plastic plug on rear of cylinder head.

Not to worry. You're covered with everything except for consumables like fluids, tires, brakes. Check here for the details: http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/cpo/warranty_info

I'm glad to see someone has picked up on the CPO extended that now goes all the way to 135k miles. MBUSA changed it from 100k to 135k not too long ago.

As far as the leak, it's possible the crush washer on the drain plug was reused instead of a new one (if the oil was drained from the pan; my dealer drains all MBs from the pan, not only the AMGs.) Nonetheless, the dealer will fix the issue under warranty.

If I'm not getting to personal, may I ask how much you paid for your extended warranty? If I am getting to personal, then just tell me to shut up

Is this common in 05' E320 gassers as well? A friend recently noticed a leak on the passenger side under the intake somewhere....
