Ah. Mercedes should run for public office Buy me baby. You know you want me. I'll be reliable. Don't believe what they say about me not being there down the road. You know you can always count on me to be there for you. That counter balance shaft thing you are so worried about... That's what makes me so special. Do you know how hard I worked to keep that thing running so that it blows up just when the warranty runs out?

On a serious note, the MB 135K warranty TV ads are already running. Saw the first one while watching Top Gear Today. What a shame they did not extend the duration of the warranty They should have extended the period -- pr at least had an option where you can pay extra $$$ to get the 135K warranty extended to 9 or 10 years.

The gist of it all is this:

1) Buy a CPO'd car from a Mercedes Benz dealer. Then buy the extended the CPO warranty which adds more time and mileage. The maximum is 7/135 as of Feb. 2011.

2) Buy a brand new car and then extend the factory warranty up to a total of 7/75 or 7/100. Do it either at the time of the new car purchase and save 15%, or buy it later but before the original factory warranty is over.

3) Buy a used car from a private party or non-Mercedes Benz dealership. If the car was never CPO'd and is still under the original factory warranty, then you can buy the products listed in #2 above. The car must have been properly serviced by a dealer under the basic MB maintenance schedule. *Also the original owner must not have bought an extended warranty on the car previously and canceled it and received a refund before they sold you the car. If they did that, then the car isn't eligible for an extended warranty purchase. This means ask when buying from a private party or a non-MB dealer and/or be sure to check the VMI (which will show if the car ever had an extended warranty added.)

Any other purchase (a car out of factory warranty and/or a non-CPO'd car sold by a Mercedes Benz dealer) means you're not eligible for a MBUSA extended warranty of any kind. Any Mercedes Benz that is sold by a Mercedes Benz dealership is not eligible unless it is CPO'd. If you see a nice MB at the MB dealership and it's still under factory warranty but not CPO'd, then you need to have them CPO the car in order for it to ever be eligible for an extended warranty.

Your only choice outside of the above parameters is a third-party aftermarket warranty product.

What about if I already purchased a CPO'd car, and it was still under the original warranty at the time of purchase, and I also purchased the 7/100 warranty at the time I picked up the car.
Can I cancel my extended warranty, get a refund, and buy the 7/135 warranty to get the extra 35K coverage? Would it matter if I'm still under the original warranty or not?

I'm in the same boat with my warranty expiring end of June. I just called the dealership I ordered the vehicle through; waiting for a quote. 7/100 would do me fine; at this rate 7/50 would also do me fine but there is nothing like 7/50

Anyone tried FreeAutoWarrantyInfo. com? They quote was $3190 for 4 years making it 8/75 but I don't have any reviews about how they are with claims etc. I think I'll stick to MB whatever the cost; I love my car too much.

The original dealer called back: $3850 + tax (includes 15% surcharge) = $4081 for 7/75. How much do prices vary between dealers?

What I failed to state was I only put 8,000 miles in the last 3 1/2 years since I no longer use this car for my daily commute. I drove 18,000 miles in first 6 months of ownership. With only 26,600 miles on the clock, I expect I'd do less than 10,000 additional miles over the next three years. In 7 years I'd have done only 36,000 miles. Spending $4,100 on 7/75 does not look too attractive for just 10,000 miles of use.
