NTG1 COMAND APS inside
#27
Found this thread on Google while trying to fix my NTG1 unit in the '07 CLS 320.
What I have discovered is that the model I have (7042) has a DVD unit with the part number DV-04-042.
A quick google search and I have managed to source a replacement for the drive, so it looks like this could be a cheap fix - under £35 delivered!
I just thought I would post this up as I believe in Knowledge sharing!
Also, from what I can tell looking at the pictures above, the earlier model is similar to the later, it just looks like the drive has been changed to a different model, I personally cannot see anything wrong with replacing those drives with a later - the cable looks identical.
One last thing, the place I got it from lists it as a Mercedes / BMW unit, so hopefully this will work!
I shall keep you all appraised.

Hope this works...
But I think I've just realized that you are talking about the head unit - I'm referring to the actual unit in the boot.
Too many components.

Bit of an update, the unit arrive this morning so just been out as I wanted to get this done ASAP and stripped the unit.
The new replacement unit is identical to the original unit so that was a good start and I was feeling confident that this may work.
The good news is that before the unit wouldn't read a DVD, no matter if original or backup DVD - after replacing this drive unit it works!
So if anybody is having the dreaded cannot read DVD from the SatNav system - search for the DV unit and get a replacement - seems to fix it - all for £36 delivered.

Was thinking it was all about the same system, as for the head-unit the principal is still the same, you can find the DV-01-26 online as well, currently selling for about $115 USD.
The good thing is that now this unit is obsolete, the parts can be found relatively cheaply online.
If people are having the DVD cannot be read issue, and feel brave then I would recommend getting a replacement DVD drive unit - cheaper than replacing the whole lot, and for my problem albeit with the Sat-Nav unit, changing the drive fixed it for me

Got one question about dvd drives in comand aps ntg1 after talking with guy from service shop, he said that there was two types of dvd drive units installed in aps ntg1 (he added that they are easily differentiated by the way it sucks in disc - one is taking it straight in while other type twists disc while sucking it). My unit works second way and from what I remember from time when I took it apart dvd drive looks not like ones that can be found on aliexpress or in pictures two posts up.
As I plan to replace it (audio CD works OK, but DVD-Rs are read from time to time only), I want to confirm that there are really two types of these units, and if there are, are they interchangeable? Obviously do not want to throw away 100 bucks plus shipping

He is correct, there are 2 types of drives. I have one or two left here but I'm not giving them away for $100. I bought them directly from Harman and they are already calibrated and ready to go.

P.S. And regarding whether two types of DVD drives are interchangeable - I guess the answer is no?

Hi, all. Hoping I can find some help in this thread. I'm having the same issue - looking to replace the drive on the COMAND NTG1 HU (the single drive above the screen) in my E500. The picture is below. Also looking to replace the DVD drive on the navigation unit in the trunk. What are the part #s I should be looking for? I searched for CDM M6 4.5/5 - I found 4.4/5 and 4.6/5, and they look very similar, but not sure. Any guidance is appreciated.
Thanks
