MB top-side oil extractor, fun fact !
So I went to MB and amongst other things had my oil changed via the top-side oil extractor. I then couldn't help myself and asked the tech about the metal shavings which gathers by the magnetic drain plug. He then told me that the oil extractor that they use has a more powerful magnetic tip to it than the plug itself. So a little more peace at mind!
Just wanted to share as I have seen several out there asking that specific question.

I'm not from Missouri, but
I would certainly take a "show me" attitude about that claim. Does the topside sucker ever go to the same general area of the pan as the magnetic drain plug? If it's inserted through a steel tube, does it magnetize it on the way through and leave stuff behind there?

Any "metallic shavings" were removed with the oil filter.
The stuff about his extracter, however is BS.
At the dealer NOTHING goes down the dipstick tube--rather it's just a vacuum-tite connection at the top of the tube.
