Here's the latest Initial Quality Survey from JD Powers for 2003.

JD Powers IQS 2003

Take a look at Lexus... waaaaay ahead of the pack. Knock on wood , my E has been flawless since the last service visit!

1) The report says "number of problems per 100 cars". This means that it is possible for the 132 problems to have come just from one unlucky car.

2) The report does not explicitly say it is the new E.

So we may want to find out the statistical distribution and standard deviation of the problems per car brand to know exactly the validity of that statement.

It will also be interesting to carry out another survey when owners know precisely how to use the gadgets that came with a car like the new E. Lack of knowledge is some times being translated to a fault in the equipment.

Good points...

The data is, afterall, from a survey. That alone means it must be taken with a grain of salt! :p

However, these types of survey and reports drive market forces. Also, the survey totals seem to include all models of a certain make. Who knows, maybe all the "bugs" were in the G-wagon and not the W211???

Hahaha... anyhow, I thought the report was interesting, especially since Lexus is so low on their IQS reported problems. And Lexus, like Mercedes, sells a lot of cars...

Cheers!
