0-60 in 5.8?

I've seen the 0-60 on the E500 posted as 5.8. Seems like I've seen it in the 6's too. Where does the 5.8 come from? MB?

5.8 is mentioned in the Edmunds.com road test. http://www.edmunds.com/new/2003/merc...Mercedes-Benz*

I think I have seen it elsewhere as well.

5.8 to 60

This was measured in Car and Driver in the November 2002 issue. Road and Track as well as Motor Trend also had 5.8 or 5.9 I believe.

Has anyone ever try the car itself in the track?

i've seen a stock E500 make a few passes at a track a few weeks ago. weird to see a lux car there. held it's own though, it ran a 14.1xx, so i think 5.8 seconds is very possible with a decent launch.

The E500 is definitely a sub 6sec car to 60, maybe on a hot disgusting day it might creep over that mark.

I would say 5.8sec is spot on.

I did a dead stop. Full power manual shifted Full acceleration holding it till we hit 100 mph. 60 was hit at right at 6.0 seconds in second gear. Car was at red line at shifts. Did it in automatic- very close to the same. I attribute a little slowness to the uneven road surface that may have affected the car. Used a plain ole' Timex Ironman chronometer to time it.

I did all this on a far West Texas deserted highway. It was about 90 degress out side and a set of golf clubs in the trunk....At 100mph , I backed off although it was clear the car had a lot more to offer- I was concerned about uneven road and any wildlife.

Hope my spouse or the Texas Highway Patrol doesn't follow this thread..

Road and Track's June 2003 issue reports testing on the new E55---- 0-60=4.2 sec, 0-100=9.2 sec, quarter mile=12.4
Amazing numbers for a lux sedan with automatic transmission.
Faster than a Ferrari 550 and Modena, at a fraction of the price,
$76,000 base.

Wow 4.2? I know Mercedes is usually conservative on their 0-60 times on their website...but that's a huge difference from the published 4.5. The E55 is one killer car!

4.2 for a 0-60 MPH?? seems a bit too speedy for the E55. Personnally, I always take the official AMG numbers.
