No confirmation yet, but some speculation & guesstimates is the car will get the 3.7 liter engine and be the E350 and 240HP. It is really overdue. The E320 has had 221HP since 1998 and all the competition has more or slated to get more.
If you want the E500 get it. Don't worry about the gas mileage - We (U.S.) now control 'one quarter' of the worlds oil reserves after "freeing" the Iraqi Oil I mean people.
Once the U.N. sanctions are lifted gas prices should drop even more.

The 7 speed is going into the S-Class and CL-Class for 2004 and slated for the 2005 E-Class.
Also, all previous posts see to indicate no E350 in 2004, but of course nothing official on this unlike the press release on 7G-Tronic.

[B]Are you sure about this? The official Diamler-Chrysler press release on 7G-Tronic (7 speed tranny) said that it would be available as of autumn 2003 and specifically mentioned E500.
The tranny 'debuts' in Autumn. No telling when they will make it to US production. That Autumn timeframe is the "World Premiere".
If the tranny 'world premieres' in Autumn it will be after the start of 2004 US production or the 2004 E500 and S & CL Classes. Unless these productions are delayed.
The 7 Speed is only for the V8's.

Trending Topics
conflicting info on the E350. autoweek said no for 2004, but some german language website quoted here a couple weeks back mentioned a mid 2004 model year changeover from the E320 to E350. all this uncertainty does makes it hard to figure out what/when is the best time to buy.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
the price is dropping? can't be.
By all accounts, there is a price increase of under 5% in store for the 2004 E Class.

Kev-
You mentioned the price, with a smiley face, I assume this means the price is decreasing. Can you elaborate?
Thanks
BTW, that is not a "smiley face" that is a 'big *** grin' in a devilish kind of way.

Kev- I take it you work at or are somehow privy to dealer sources? Is it your understanding that any price increase will apply across the board to all Merecedes or is it possible the E Class might escape due to its market positioning? I could see Mercedes USA adding some options in as standard which could justify some increase, but don't really think they would want to push the E Class even further out of it intended midrange market segment.
I am not sure how Mercedes increases prices, whether a flat percentage for some models or a flat dollar amount. Sometimes the increase make no sense and are all over the map.
'04 E500/Sport or E55 when I can
make up my mind!!
Hey MBPRINCE, if the $18K price difference is not a deterrent, any indecision on which car to buy suggests to me you aren't AMG material. The difference between the cars is night and day.
I predict a price increase of less then 3%, this segment is too competitive, new 5 series and Lexus GX coming, and 2003 sales for the E were not booming,
I am picking up an 03 E500/sport this week and will drive it 'till the 04's have the nav and voice command working and then I will get the E55. I just don't want to wait any longer but my mind is made up. Let me know when you get your 04!! I will change my sig as soon as I get the new car and post some pics......
