head restraint reset

The head restraints popped when I went over a speed bump.

I have read the manual and have the tool but cannot get them reset.

Does anyone have any practical suggestions for how to reset them with out going to the dealer?

When I stick the Z shaped stick into the restraint it does not engage in anything. Thanks.

After reading this post I looked in every nook and cranny of my E350 for the reset tool, but it's missing. Is there an alternative tool that can be used, such as a long allen wrench, torx screw driver or ice pick? My head restraints are OK, so my interest is simply to be prepared.

Headrest hook wrench part # 0005810027 MSRP $3.70 - or you can use long allen key approximately 6mm.

hey, how long of an allen wrench? I can't find the tool in either of my Benzes, and I just tried a 1/4" allen wrench (6mm equiv I think) and three inches didn't hit a thing......

hey, now that I've had my SA reset the headrests (free of charge), I stumbled across this in my socket wrench case:

Is that my reset tool?

Hi All -

Got bumped from behind and headrest popped up. I've been trying to reset the headrest with no luck. I understand from other posts on what to do and how to reset the headrest with the tool but it won't work. I can't seem to to get the tool to "engage" so I can pull the head rest back into locked position. Any suggestions?

ML

At this point it may be best for you to stop by dealer and have them instruct you on how to perform reset. No reflection on your capabilities but rather mechanism may be broken.
