iPhone Install

iPhone Install
I finally cleaned up the iPhone install in my 2004 E500. The power cord trailing to the ashtray and audio cord to the aux in have been bugging me for awhile, and I'm much happier now. Here were my steps:
1 I routed my audio cable from the glove box back to the center console using the method described in https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w211/363231-3-5mm-audio-jack-reroute-hardwire-how.html
2 I got power by cutting into the cable pair running under the center console that feeds the rear cigarette lighter (one brown neutral, one yellow/black 12v ignition). I attached a generic cigarette lighter ($6 at Autozone) to these and inserted my usb converter into this. This all lives under the false floor of the center console.
3 I used the Kensington 2-in-1 Charger and Audio Cable for iPhone/iPod ($27 from Amazon). The key advantage of this cable is it allows the iPhone to charge and play audio through a single connector (makes getting into or out of the vehicle much quicker).
4 Finally I routed the ipod connector bit of the Kensington cable up into the top part of the center console.
I have attached a few pics. Total project cost $33. Total project time: research about 3 hours, install about 30 mins.
