Flooring the accelerator & only going 20mph
The car is a 2003 Mercedes E320. When merging into a freeway, I floored it but the car only went at 20 mph even though the engine was roaring and the tachometer showed 6500 rpm. I put on the flashers and turned off the engine. I restarted it and so far (70 miles), no signs of trouble.
What might have been/is wrong? What can I do about it? What kind of repair/maintenance MIGHT be needed?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
The car was bought new by my family and every driver has been a family member. No radiator replacement, never had any symptoms before. However, the transmission has been "noisy" for at least a few months (not sure if I just noticed it or if it has been noisy recently).

Yep, transmission.
Glycol issue? Have you had any symptoms before this? What's the car's history? Are you the original owner? Have you done a glycol test? Was the radiator replaced? The torque converter?
There also were some bad TCUs on these cars. Dealer/Indy can easily do a SDS test on the TCU and torque converter and a glycol test. Although these issues should have appeared long before now. Maybe check the VMI at the dealer to see what's been done already (if you're not the original owner.)
