However, as we explained to e_coup, elsewhere in these forums, several reviewers with the EXACT same car... it is working perfectly. This highlights the problem with some cars like a Mercedes Benz. Mercedes has continually come out with new part numbers AND software updates for the iPod systems in the cars... why? Because they are not always Apple compliant. If you will visit Mercedes Benz factory website, you will find many updates available for the cars. This is why we give several solutions to this problem. The Anystream is 100% compliant. e_coup, If you went and purchased a $800 iPad, it would not work in your car either without the updates or cables mentioned. So it is caveat emptor, but not for the reasons you mentioned. It is because your car needs the updates or proper cables to work. One must be willing to take the steps necessary to bring the car into compliance with Apples specifications if you wish to use an iPad, Anystream, or future iOS5 device (as the new Apple iPhone operating system coming out next month won't work in your car either).
Within the cable kit part number we give on our site listed above is a USB cable. When used with the USB cable and any iPod cable that contains the AAC (Apple Authentication Chip), it forces a non Apple compliant system to be compliant. It is a simple solution to a compatibility problem.
However, like we said before, other reviewers on this site have the same car, same year, same cable, and it works fine. It is because they have different software in the car, and it is compliant. It can be a complicated matter to understand, but there are easy solutions to the problem.
PLUS, the Anystream does come with a 100% money back guarantee should you decide to try it and not want to take the steps necessary should it not work. Even in Cyprus, the ANystream only weighs 1 ounce (28 grams), and can be put in a normal letter and mailed back for very little cost. You can recover your investment should you want to. For the record, only 3 Anystreams have ever been returned (with a little over 500 sold so far) - and 98% of those have been sold in the US where they can be returned for under 50 cents.

I tried to edit the original post but cant so I have to quote instead.

NOTE: fwiw cartronics.com are "good people" - even after my negative review and after some back/forth with them - they are still responding to my questions. I believe their 100% money back guarantee. I understand that many people have had success with this product. I'm in the process of trying to source an apple usb cable 'with authentication chip' (the apple store won't deliver to my country and not sure that the ones on ebay/amazon have the 'apple authentication chip' built in which is what I need). If I get my hands on one and try it out I'll post back here.

My phone, htc desire hd running android 2.3, connects fine to the anystream and the led on the anystream flashes once every 6 seconds suggesting the connection phone<--->anystream is fine.

However the media interface on the car is stuck at 'activating device' and nothing else happens.

For the record, I called anystream and they took my call and were very polite. However the suggested 'solution' is to go and buy a composite av cable with authentication chip from apple to connect the anystream via usb - this costs very close to the price i paid for the anystream. With this in mind I may have opted for a different solution (like the motorolla gateway). I am also in Cyprus so sending it back is not really an option/feasible/cost effective. Thus I'm left with a $80 square of plastic. I may eventually go buy the composite cable but at this point i'm weary of spending more money on something that may or may not work. Caveat emptor.

Just bought the 855 (puck w/ pigtail) unit for my 03 E500, connected easily with my iphone 4S, but no contact info. The phone is set to sync the contacts, and I can see them on the radio screen if I press 'phone' but nothing in the dash screen nor do the steering wheel controls work with the phone. (SIRI works fine though).

What is STAR, and is that something that I need the dealer (or my independant repair shop) to utilize in order to fully integrate the phone / BT / and car?

I have a 04 E500 and am considering getting the puck with tail adapter. But, in addition to the install and possibly STAR diagnostic activation set to "Present" or "On" is there anything else needed to ensure the caller will hear my voice from the vehicle? I've seen and read about the PTT stalk kit that attaches as an optional accessory to the steering wheel stalk. Is this needed to pick up the voice in the vehicle cabin? If not, where is the in-cabin mic located?

I don't know where the mic is, but I could hear just fine, as could the person I called, and SIRI came through fine too. I'd just like to see my contacts and be able to use the steering wheel controls.

Great. It appears that just having the 'puck' installed into a pre-wired vehicle (COMAND) and possibly the STAR diag ensures connectivity and compatibility. I realize it sounded like a silly question but no one had really addressed voice quality on the receiver's end when you are placing a call from the car.

I didn't have to do anything special to get my contacts to sync (once connected to the car). It takes a while initially (15 min)... and then after that it's pretty quick (2-3 min). If you go to phone and select received calls - does it show your contacts then?

My issue is my phonebook in the car is full so not all names get in there. Maybe same is happening to you when you search for someone? What happens when someone calls you - does it show their name properly? (mine does unless it's someone that can't get sync'd to car because their letter is too far down alphabet).

Siri doesn't work in my car... nor does visual voice mail. I have the PTT which allowed me to program in my top contacts verbally and I can speak their name and it dials them. I believe that is interrupting these functions.

This is the part number I used to purchase the BT puck adapter - B67875855. Once I installed it in the center console I visited the dealership and had provided them with the Star Bulletin for Voice Activated Cellular Telephone Installation (Order No: P-1-82.70/290). It provided additional instructions including how to program the vehicle control system for "Portable Cellular System to FITTED". I now have full functionality of the steering wheel controls, phone book and BT recognition on start-up for my iPhone 4.

The dealer performed the Star Bulletin as a customer courtesy.

Has anyone have problems with the system freezing up. After I make a call and hang up, car phone system still says it is making a call. Which then my Audio 50 is muted because it still thinks it is making a call. Tried pressing the "end" button but nothing happens. Only way to fix it is by turning off the car. Tried re-syncing bluetooth but same issue still.

I have a 2003 e500, Audio 50, iphone5

You will need the bluetooth puck Mercedes part # B6 787 5878 or part# B6 787 6131. Either one should work for a 2005. Hope this helps!

My question is I have 2003 E500 W211 can I use a Iphone4s or does it has to be just a plain IPhone4. My concern is that when I press the steering wheel control to access the phone book it says telephone not installed but if I dial by using keypad on my phone it works great. .?

pretty sure that just means that you haven't had the dealer turn set the phone to "present" in the star diag. system. from what I understand it should work with iPhones up through present models.

I just bought the puck with tail for 300. so I will be installing it in the next week or so.

I have installed the Puck with tail,
Amazon.com: Mercedes-Benz OEM Bluetooth Cradle Replacer Adapter for 2003 and 2004 E-Class: Cell Phones & Accessories Amazon.com: Mercedes-Benz OEM Bluetooth Cradle Replacer Adapter for 2003 and 2004 E-Class: Cell Phones & Accessories

It syncs up with my phone, but I have to answer/dial on the phone. I have not had the car at the dealer to get the system updated so it thinks it has the phone present, but it works great, good voice quality incoming and outgoing.

Hello,
I just called the dealership with my VIN# and was told that my car is wired for the phone but does not have the cradle installed. So based on your instructions, I should order B67875855 correct?
Question 1: I have an iPhone 5S with Verizon. Do you know if this will work?
Question 2: Do I also need to order the cradle or is this not necessary?
Question 3: Will I need to order any other parts?

Thanks in advance.

1) 5s is what I have, works fine.
2) Nothing other than the part listed in my link is required. (2003 and 2004 only)
3) see # 2

To get full functionality, (steering wheel controls.. make calls from car not phone...load phonebook into car..etc..) you must have the dealer (or indy with STAR diag) turn on the phone in the cars software.

Looking at the description for the part, it says for '03 & '04. Will this part work for an '06?
