0W40 or 5W40?

There seems to alot of confusion about what oil I should be using for my 03 E320. Some say the change to 5W40 for 05 models on, others say it's for diesel... does anyone know for sure?

You can use any MB Spec 229.5 motor oil. Go look at this MB site: http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevoli....5&suchbegriff=

The dealerships are using 5w40 now and don't stock 0w40. I still use 0w40.

So any oil listed for a spec is good?

Such as for my 2008 E320 Bluetec, which takes 229.51, I can use any in that whole list?

Ideas on 229.31 vs 229.51?

I've been looking and Mobile 1 ESP M 5W/40 is ~$12/quart, and looking for alternatives that work just as well, but cost less.

napa and advance always have deals on 0/40 and that is way to go. Use the MB or Mann fleece filter. Oh, walmart and Costco often have it priced around $6.xx per quart.

Check the M1 site for coupons and such.

Yes you can use any in that spec. I dont know why, but M1 ESP is crazy expensive online, IE Amazon. Some pepboys carry it, also, MB Dealer has it for 7.99 less 10% discount for MB Club of America. I tried mail order but found once you add shipping its more than dealer

I used 0w-40, I mean the car was built to run 0w-40 and its cheaper than the ESP 5W-40. I'm sure its ok to use the newer oil but up to you really.

Wonder if the MBZ dealers are still at that lower price?

Pep Boys has gone crazy.
They recently went up from $7.99 to $8.49 and NOW are up to $9.49, so with tax,
that's over $10 per liter. Over $80 just for the oil for an oil change!

Got to be some way to beat those prices? How about using the factory oil for the VW TDIs?
Only thing that could be wrong is that it is 05-30W, but other than that . .

At todays exchange, that's almost $33 per liter.

Are you sure? That is simply crazy!

How can anyone afford to change their oil?
