Help with purchase 2008 E550 for iphone
Looking to upgrade from 03 e500 to 08 e550 4matic. Never was suggested to get the integration package for bluetooth by me dealer, as too many problems with it. Now I have my eye on an 08 with the premium package including hands free communication. I cant find a post or web site that confirms that Iphone 4 (or upcoming 4s) is compatible with the 08 package. Can anyone tell me whether it works with an iphone, including contact lists, etc.? Not looking as pure ipod integration, but bluetooth phone or cradled (I suppose). Thanks, as this will make or break the sale...

Here's another data point:
iPhone 3GS works fine in 2006 E500 with the MB Bluetooth interface. Downloads phone book fine, and as an added bonus the iPhone ringtones come through the car speakers.
While the electonics may differ in 2008 (I forget which year the BT was integrated into the COMMAND system), I'd like to think they wouldn't take a step backwards (but hey, it's MB)...
If you want to dock the iPhone in the glove box for audio integration as well, you may need the Scosche Passport adapter to simultaneously charge the phone (it's $17 at Amazon). Apple switched from the firewire to USB pins for charging on the dock connecter several years back and MB took a couple of model years to update the iPod integration cable. So if you get a charging not supported message when you plug the phone into the glove box cable, then you need this little adapter -- without it the iPhone will play through the audio system, but not charge.

My iPhone 3GS works fine with my present 08 E350. The car came with the MB Bluetooth gadget plugged into the center console. When it first connected, the car downloaded the phone's whole address book (some people with far too many friends have found a limit to the number of contacts). As mentioned above, the car uses the phone's ringtone. It works well, but I found it was unreliable if my phone was in my left pocket.
