E350 tire change question
I have a question regarding my 2006 E-350 tires of 45k miles.
I noticed my rear tires almost wear out, have no track while my front tire looks new. My dealer told me rear tire wears faster than front. My repair shop told me the front wears faster and they have rotated tires when I sent car for service. So I am confused. Is front tire wear faster or rear tires?
Since the rear have almost no track, I need to change 4 tires. What tire should I use? I want quite tires with good mileage and reasonable price.
The dealer offers Michelin pilot MXM 4 ($199 each), Installation charge ($165), alignment ($185). Is this good deal? I am in northern California.

If you're not rocking 4-matic, then you can just replace the rear 2 tires and start working on a rotation schedule once they wear down closer to where the fronts currently are. But AWD systems are much more fussy about all 4 tires being worn the same, since they need to be the same size to avoid problems with the front and rear wheels turning at different speeds.
Regardless of whether you have 2 or 4 wheel drive, you want the tires with more tread on the back. That will keep you on the road better if you hydroplane or slip. Also, I'd be very suspicious of a repair shop telling me my RWD car's front tires should wear faster...that would be the last conversation I had with them.
Oh, and I'll second the recommendation for Conti DWS - they're simply the best all-season tire you can get. I have run them on 3 cars and wouldn't buy anything else.
