Oil leak

Found an oil leak on my garage floor yesterday morning. A good size oil leak of about 5 inches in diameter on the floor.

Drove to work and it stayed parked all day in the parking deck and no oil leak was there when I left work. Got home and parked in the garage and the car sat there until this morning (about 15 hours) and not a drop of oil on the floor.

Any thoughts on this? How can there be a big puddle of oil one day and none the next?

Oh, and when the oil leak was first discovered yesterday, my car had been parked in the garage for 3 days without being moved.

johnlk25........

Are you certain its an oil leak? The reason I'm asking is I had a repair performed which I initially thought was a oil leak and MB dealer discovered it was the seal at the rear side of the transmission.

I had something similar. Turned out to be a leak at what are called camshaft expansion plugs. They were not expensive. I could not imagine where the oil was coming from.

I'm fairly certian that it was oil. But regardless, how come it was there on the floor one day and has not been there since? An oil leak (or transmission fluid) leak would not just start and then stop would it?

The leaks from my expansion plugs were sporadic, not constant.

My issue as reflected on the repair order sheet was noted as the connector plug at the transmission.
