Illuminated buttons and controls - just noticed
Hi.
As the winter approaches here in Denmark most of my driving in the Benz is done in quite dark conditions and this makes me love the look of the interior lighting scheme the germans put into the W211 (actualy love it more than the w212 but that is another thing)
My question is regarding one ( and ONE ) button only that does not seem to have any backlight.
I have the active speed hold (dont know the correct term here) where the car will speed up and brake by itself. Terefore I also have this wheel/scrolling knob in the centre by the gear leaver to set the desired distance to the car in front. This button has a white marking on the middle setting and it looks just like the same kind of white that all the other buttons has (and that lights up when driving in dark conditions)
Is my knob simply just broken or does is not have backlight? I find nothing in the manual.

Thank you for confirmation. I actually asked the local MB dealer and they had never thoght of it. In Denmark there are only a very limited number of cars with this option so I could not ask anyone.
As a side note I did look at the knob today in daylight, and I can now see a difference in the "whiteness" of the symbols to be illuinated. This one is a bit more white whereas all other buttons and symbols are somewhat offwhite.

Hi sasquatch11976!
Maybe you're interested in this thread on the german motor-talk.de-community:http://www.MOTOR-TALK.de/forum/distr...-t3108588.html
Adding 2 LEDs makes at least the two symbols to the left and right of the control knob light up. The knob itself cannot be illuminated at all. And a bit off topic: don't the Danish call the ACC by the name "Distronic" as the Germans do?
Regards
Ruediger

Granada: yes it s called Distronic. Dont know why I did not write that actually.
I have looked at the link and this looks like something I must have. Why did MB not illuminte this in the first place. Doh. There are 642 other light sources in the car allready. Why not make it three more. Doh. Anyways thank you all for the replys.

I was also wondering why the Distronic's knob for adjusting the distance to be held was not illuminated. But apart from that I also love the view of my S211 by night when everything is fully illuminated just like a christmas tree.

Yes. It is lovely. I finally got my own MB. During my study years here's in Denmark I was a TAXI driver and this car is commonly used. Besides that I also worked for AVIS. Driving cars Btw. pickup points. The Merc always felt right and I was driving a lot of expensive brands. The last pre facelift MY 2004 I think had blue lighting scheme besides the dome light. Perhaps I should look into this.
