Question 2003-2007 W211 Buying Question

Hi,

I was just reading some wikipedia stuff about the W211's and I came accross the below.

"The W211 E-Class was face lifted in 2007 to address quality and technical issues raised by earlier models, Sensotronic was dropped, while Pre-Safe (w/o brake support) was made standard."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes_Benz_E_class#W211

Sensotronic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sensotronic

The Sensotronic, when would you need to redesign the breaking system? Only when converting your W211 to a track vehicle?

So the category we're looking at is 2003-2007. This shape E-Class, 2008 and above it changes the front grill etc.

If we read the above it wouldn't matter getting a 2003 model would it? Am I right thinking it's now ok to buy a 2003-2006 model, instead of only buying a 2007 model? Or is there more underlying technical problems?

Thanks :>

Do some reading on this board. Your misspelling of braking is more apt than you might realize. I avoided the 2003-06 MY cars after reading about their reliability issues and especially problems with the braking systems. The 2007 and later cars appear to have substantial improvements in their quality; it wasn't just a facelift. That said, most people who own 2003-06 Mercs are probably quite happy with their cars; it is the minority with problems who make the most noise on auto forums.

99% True... "most" people had a lot of problems with their '03s - '06s. When they were under warranty, it would be just an inconvenience. Without a waranty... have plenty of repair money on hand at all times.

Its not that they were were undependable transportation, but you never would know which one of the electrically operated items or systems would not work properly on any given week or day part. They might work on the way to the drug store, but not on the way home... they might not work for a week and magically fix themselves. It was a roulette wheel every month.

The endless problems would rob you of all the pride and pleasure of owning a Mercedes. At this point in time, do yourself a favor. Buy an '07>.

07+ ftw. big difference. we may be generalizing, but how many people are usually the exception to the rule? 06 wasn't a bad year, big improvements, but still have sbc and would be better not to deal with it at all imo.
