Smoke From Under the Hood
Hello,
There was smoke coming out the very front driver's side of my E 320 4matic. Before that I was hearing a louder than usual 'diesel engine-like' sound coming out of the front. When I opened the hood one of the 'rotators' - where the poly v belt raps around - was somewhat red, in a ring shape, indicating heat. The smoke had a rubber smell to it. Initially I thought it was the engine, however, that was running well and the temp was normal. Now, the exact rotator in question was the one located at the farthest and lowest end of the driver's side.
The noise used to be much less, but made the car sound like a diesel engine for the past six or more months. Earlier I had taken it to MB, they recommended replacing the tensioner and belt... noise still remained. I was told it could be somewhere in the engine and not to worry.
Anyone gone through something similar?
Any advice from you guys before I go to MB on Monday would be truly appreciated.

Was the AC compressor... cost of compressor $1600... plus front aux battery and new ploy belt... add labour... to a total of $3100, here in Canada.
