'07 E350 Balance Shaft Problem

Recently purchased this car with 99,000 miles. It threw a check engine light code with the balance shaft. I just saw the bulletin and my engine falls in the range of affected engines.

Is there any assistance that MBUSA will provide? Or will I have to foot the cost of repair?

I had to have the repair on my '07 E350. Mercedes helped, but part of my argument was that the car had always had work done by the dealer. You may have to fuss-I came in, armed and ready with all the information I could get as to the problem being a defect.

Thanks for the reply. The last dealer service was at 42,000. Rest of the time an indy had been doing the oil changes.

I don't think the dealer is going to cover anything because the car doesn't have a strong service history through them.

So I guess there are 2 options, take the loss and sell it or pay the 5,000 or so that it costs to have this repaired.

Can't believe Mercedes would make a junk engine such as this.

You probably have nothing to lose asking for a contribution. My dealer started at $5K, and we ended up-as I recall-under $2K.

You won't get what you don't ask for, that's for sure. Talk to the service manager.

How recently was the purchase and from what kind of dealer ? I would think that even an indie would offer 30 days. Or, if you bought it privately, a problem.

Thanks for the update Dan. Do you have any info on the M156 (E63) class action?

I can only assume that it will go the same route.
