Transmission Cold Issue
I just started my 2007 E550 4-matic w/51k miles on it in 15 degree weather. When I put it in reverse I had to apply alot of throttle before it would move. Then, in drive it did the same - appearing to start out in 2nd or 3rd gear. It would not resolve even when I manually placed it in 1st gear. Eventually, it warmed up and ran fine. Has anyone ever had this issue?
Thanks.
Thanks.

11 E350 4Matic
+1 When the temps are really frigid my vehicle acts weird until its at operating temp at which point everything is normal again. I have about 102k on my E350 4Matic.

I have similar symptoms, but I'm not sure there is anything wrong. I have an 08 4M with about 50K, but it has done this since it was brand new. I've had the stealer check it out and they find no fault codes.
When it's cold outside and after the first start, I find that it feels like it is starting out in 2nd gear the first couple of times, when pulling away from a stop - like when stopping for a stop sign, etc.
It also seems to stay in low gear, when driving at slow speeds. I think this is a design "feature".
Once warmed up (a mile? +/-) it is fine.

My 2007 E550 4MATIC with 40K miles does the same thing. Only when it's cold outside. It's annoying. I don't have time to "warm up" the car before driving. I might have the dealer check it out, but I'm guessing they'll just tell me there's nothing wrong.

Out Of Control!!
I believe what you are experiencing is an issue with the flow of fluid within the transmission(torque converter drain and or fluid filter pick up). I would check the cold and hot fluid level and then I would ask myself when was the last time I changed the filter.
