Driver's seat controls problem - Please, help to diagnose (2004 E320)

I have my driver's seat controls working only partially on my E320 (W211 - 2004 E320 with dynamic/vented seats option). The back rest works only one way (reclining) and the head rest does not move at all. The seat still moves back/ forward/up and down.

Can anyone suggest a good way of diagnosing whether it is the control module that is failing? Which control module would this be? I understand there are two of them one under the seat and another one behind the door panel.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I had a mechanic checking the seat controls last night. He was not able to identify what the problem was. The only thing he did was what I specifically asked him not to do - that is while testing it, he moved the back rest back a little more!....
I am running out of pillows to put behind my back to be able to drive my car

Is there by any chance a way to manually adjust the back rest back up before I am able to sort this out?

Quick update: the problem fixed.
I have purchased the 2004 Mercedes Benz E320 W211 Left front seat module P# A2118201185.

The replacement of the unit (it is the one located under the seat) took about 10 minutes.

The seat controls are back to normal. Thanks

2004 E500 W211

I am going to replace mine over the weekend. I tried the switch first - it did not fix the problem. I have ordered a control module and it is coming today. Any advice on how to do the job, in the ten minutes it took you sounds great, would be appreciated! 2004 E500 Wagon

I have a similar problem on my CLK W208 the seat goes forward only but try using the pre programmed buttons 1,2,0r 3 if these work you are in good shape , mine still work normal .Good luck
