Arrow Throwing a P0456 code

i have an '03 e320 and i just started throwing this code yesterday

the p0456 is an evap leak, i believe it is a minor but i have to double check again.

i have the gas smell in the cabin like the AMG owners (LINK if you're unfamiliar) i have had this smell in the car for a while now, but the code just came up yesterday.

was wondering if anyone other than AMG owners has had this issue, and/or has thrown this code before?

im hoping its something as simple as the gas cap, but the fuel smell in the cabin i feel has become more intense this last month or so. i do not daily the car my wife does and she says that she has gotten used to the smell so she doesnt notice it.

any ideas? i hear the back seats are super easy to pull up and check on the sending unit

any help appreciated

I either had that code or one like it on my 2009 E350 - very small leak based on what the code reader said.

Thought it was the gas cap, but once the dealer diagnosed it under warranty, it ended up being a crack in the fuel filler neck.

yea the dealer told me that was a possibility im hoping since its a minor leak that its nothing that has to do with the tank, i would really love to not have to replace the tank.

i pulled the seats up and there is for sure a leak around the sending unit, the actual unit looked to be in good shape so im thinking maybe just the gasket?

looks like it starts here

then seeps down more, this was only about an hour or so into the fill up so not sure how much actually leaks through the sending unit area

Sending unit/fuel pump/filter is one assembly you will need to buy it new.

im starting to think that the tank does not need to be replaced cause the indy shop i took it too said it was leaking from the top, doesnt make much sense to me. i think that it is just leaking from that sending unit where it goes into the tank.

those are much better prices than what i was quoted at the shop! thanks konigstiger! im jut going to do the labor myself hopefully save me some money

There actually is a big O Ring under the seal perhaps you just need filter service and a new O-Ring?
