Post Noisy W211 SBC, active cornering, car jerks when changing gear

I live in Australia and recently bought (privately) a 2005 E280 Avantgarde with full Mercedes Benz service history. I will be taking the car in for a C service in a few days time (it has done 105 000 km) and wondered if any of the Australian forum members have had success with the dealer installing a damper (as I read someone in the USA had done at no cost) or some other solution to the noisy SBC. Was there ever a recall for this problem in Australia.

Another question that I have is about the active cornering lights as mentioned in the REdBook in Australia but my car dose not have this? Does this model come with active cornering?

Lastly I recently noticed that the car sometimes jerks when changing gear. This usually happens if the engine is cold and also after depressing the accelerator pedal hard I have to quickly release it if there is an obstacle ahead or if the traffic light changes to orange/red.

My 2003 w/SBC is noisy even with the dampers. You can always hear it when standing outside the car. However inside you have to listen really close to hear it. Sorry can't give you db's as I never measrued it to give you a qualitive answer. The gear shift is relatively smooth on mine w/5 speed auto. Hard acceleration can result in quick firmer shifts. You might consider changing oil and filter in the tranny just to insure all the service is updated. I doubt it is a problem though.

I'm in Australia,

When i got my car 2004 E270CDI (in 2005) i believe my car had already had the SBC recall when i purchased it.

Take it into the dealer, they should honor the 10 year warranty on the unit and they may possibly be able to install the dampers for you free of charge.

However my units really noisy, but i have a diesel so you can barely hear it over the engine anyway

I don't believe we got active cornering on our pre-facelift model here in Australia. I have a brochure from 2005 for the W211 and it has no mention of that option.

Thanks guys really appreciate your thoughts and advice in relation to my posting. My car goes in on Friday. I will definitely ask about the 10 year warranty.
