need help figuring out airmatic issue.

ok so ive had the usual left rear side drop after a few days sitting.it drops on the left side way more than the other. i had this problem before and i tightened everything and it went away for a while.

it started doing it again a while back when i let my car sit for a few weeks. whats weird is that when my battery died during this period , it had stopped dropping and it was level for the whole time i was trying to figure out how to open my trunk to charge my battery. i didnt think much of it until it happened again. after i charged my battery it started dropping after a day of so of it sitting. so my battery died again cuz i didnt use the car for a few more days and vooila my car had stopped dropping again after the battery died.

my point is, what is making the car drop when it has battery but it will not drop and inch and remains fine for days while i have a dead battery. im trying to figure out what electrical component in the system can cause the car to drop . maybe if somebody else is having this problem with the side dropping can disconnect their battery for a night and see if the same happens

I don't know if this will help, but my experience with my R500 sounds very similar, excluding the battery part. While driving, my wife noticed excessive noise which turned out to be the pump trying to keep the leaking strut up. When parked, the car would droop over to the right but when you started, up it would go again. To avoid burning the pump up for overwork...

Replaced strut by Arnott, problem resolved.

I suspect you have a leaky air spring on the left side. Basically this is an air bag. The bad has folds in it which are subject to cracking. This would be at the base/top or anywhere there is a bend. The crack when just starting will leak a little then the car settles and pinches the crack stopping the leak. As the crack spreads it gets worse until it no longer seals and collapses totally. The car will attempt to remain level by running the air system at times but can't keep up. This can result in failure of the 2nd airspring.

This is what happened to my MB and Lincoln both with airs suspension systems. The Lincoln however was only $200/bag and about 30 min / side to replace. The MB requires (by the MB manual) pulling the rear axle assembly and takes quite a bit more time and $$.

Note there are short cuts to pulling the rear axle assy. but not MB approved.
