03 E500 Bluetooth upgrade

I'm getting the dreaded "Teleaid-Visit Work Shop..." message. Is it still possibly to successfully install the Motorola V60 Bluetooth Cradle Adapater? Any help or info is greatly appreciated.

Since you have a MY03 W211 (which comes pre-wired), I would go for the motorola v60 bluetooth cradle replacer.

TJDUPRE,

An important point is what you need....by the terminology I have seen...... (I may have "adapter" and "replacer" back to front, but you'lll figure out what I mean.)

a) an ADAPTER or
b) a REPLACER

An ADAPTER is for if you already have a cradle that a phone fits in, in your armrest console. It looks like a phone and has no cable ("tail")

A REPLACER is for if you do not have a cradle, but do have the car otherwise-prewired. It also looks like a phone and does have a cable ("tail") that connects into the wiring. It does not fit into a cradle, of course, because there is none in the car.

My 2004 E320 had the cradle and I bought an ADAPTER like this:
http://compare.ebay.com/like/2510072..._lwgsi=y&cbt=y

It plugged in easily into the cradle, was simple to configure and works fine, with an occassional need (every few weeks) to unplug it and repower it on.

So, do you have a phone cradle already?

I was under the impression that the 2003-2004 E-Class needed the replacer:

There is a choice to make, based on your starting point

NBDT, if the car never had a phone cradle, you are correct that the part that you provided a link to is the thing needed. (Or at least part of the solution. I don't know if more is needed.)

If the car already has a cradle because the original owner spent the necessary bucks, then the adaptor I linked to is sufficient. I use it quite successfully. My e320 was built in August 2003.

The only thing I don't get is SMS messages through the car. I have heard that this is because many phones don't support SMS text over bluetooth. But I wouldn't know for sure on that angle and it was not a key issue for me.

First and foremost, thanks Wampa and Ozusa for the reply. Ozusa, it seems I'll need the adapter (like the picture you linked). I currently have the wired cradle and motorola V60 phone installed. Am I correct in that notion? Will the Tele-Aid error message complicate the install and/or function of the adapter if I decide to purchase it?

Thanks for the clarification. I'm looking at getting the replacer soon.

Sorry, I don't know if the Tele-aid error message will matter.

see this thread on the Teleaid error message....

https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...defective.html

So, it would seem it need not affect BT-based telephony and you can get the error removed.

I have a 2004 E500 that i bought the BT cradle with tail after reading this thread, the dealer service man here in Greenwich says my car can't do this without getting a UHI or UMI or some adapter put in the back. Everything i read on this forum says to the contrary? How can i convince him or what do i need to have them do with the diagnostic machine to enable it? Everyone says just plug it in and have it programmed, but the guy says my car won't support it even though its the w211 also

MHI, and maybe your phone doesn't have the module installed. If not, then no phone.

thank you, so it is possible the 04 e500 did not come with the wiring i need. I was under the impression from this thread that all of these models came pre wired. I did have the harness under my fake floor board in the center console. I plugged in the puck to it and was able to get it to pair, however could not get the phone icon on command to work, or for it to really work with the cell phone. I am going to look in the back for that module and see if i have it. He said i would need to purchase that module and the fiber optic ring, about 500 for both

I have the v60 bt cradle adapter and it is installed. I took it to the dealer thinking they just needed to "activate" it on my command unit. But he said I'm missing other parts to have this work. I was under the impression that the whole advantage of the v60 BT cradle was that it bypassed the need for those extra parts and plugged right into the tel aid system
