(last new thread today from me.. I promise )
Guys, have to say the E5 is a monster. I am going to test drive a 540iA Sport one of these days to confirm.. but have driven one before.. and for the life of me.. I do not think the E given up ANYTHING to the 540. In addition, the comfort level is FAR ABOVE. But I'll try sometime to get one for a roadtest.. to compare =)
Yesterday coming home from work.. I took a freeway feeder (it's a Texas thing ;-) coming off the blvd (90 deg angle intersection) at about 45+ mph.... I was at about 80+.. hit the brakes hard (the intersection was clear.. I was cautious) to set the suspension.. and then got back on the go pedal and cut the wheel. The tail drifted just enough (anyone seen bmwfilms STAR with the M5 . Almost a full-on power slide.. minus the ESP interference.... the ESP nicely added the power after the turn to keep me going with little wheel spin.. and once I straightened out and had traction.. nearly got WHIPLASH =) from the power coming back on.
The tires were screaming during the manuveur, yet the car felt TOTALLY composed and in control the whole time.
Comments from nay-sayers about the steering feel and brakes... obviously are one ride reviewers. It doesn't feel like a bimmer, but isn't supposed to.
