sorry for not getting back sooner. Car has been fixed, I have noticed a much better acceleration, and no diesel sound intermittently. if you're looking for symptoms I would say sluggish, some times while car is idling it sounds like a quite diesel rattle front of motor. also as I was in the car, once at idle in park, the rpms dropped and ran rough for a second or two then idle normal, did this three or four times. good luck to the rest. Now I'm dealing with the driving going into neutral feel, have to shift from drive to neutral several times then go into gear.
Plutoe it is a C280
I wrote after it was repaired: here were the "symptoms". I read that others wonder what to look for if no CEL on. This is why I read post and don't get involved sorry for helping.
As to the later my trans is acting up and was hoping someone had info to maybe post some help.
So don't run while reading
Thank you

In the process of purchasing a 2006 MB CLS 55 AMG for about $29k with 56,000 miles...having a pre-sale inspection independently done at a separate MB dealership beforehand. Selling my 2009 MB CLS 550 with 70,000 miles on it to upgrade to the AMG. Welcome comments.
“A California federal judge has granted preliminary approval of a class action settlement to resolve defective engine allegations against Mercedes-Benz U.S.A., LLC.”

um, 'scuse me .. but .. is it me ... or is Konigstiger's post above regarding the class action settlement a huge and total BOMBSHELL !!!????!!! To have Balance Shaft sprocket replacement covered by MBUSA !?!?!?! I would have expected much more fan fare and reaction to this announcement. This is like the sword of Damocles taken away from over your M272 heads... 105k miles on my 2006 M272 and no sign of Balance Shaft issue (yet) ... but this takes all the pressure off ... if this announcement is indeed the real deal and I understood it correctly (repair now covered by MBUSA).

engine no check????
My R350 has been having multiple issues that we feel are balance shaft related. We are trying to figure out if our M272 Engine is included in the serial numbers ranges that have been affected. Our vin is 4JGCB56E88A067504 and the engine no is 27296730724855.
Any help understanding the ranges would be greatly appreciated.

The dreaded M272 Balance Shaft
Would you mind checking mine for me please? I have a 2007 R350, the check engine light is on and I've been told the codes state that I have a cam shaft timing issue. I tried looking up my VIN# to determine the engine number and it looks like my engine number isn't covered but it also seems confusing. My vin # is 4JGCB65E27A059338
I appreciate you looking that up for me, but I'm confused. I've been told by two different shops (not Mercedes) that I have the balance shaft issue and that its a $5-$6K repair. If I have the issue and I'm not covered by the law suite it would seem that i'm screwed instead of fine
Should I take it in to Mercedes and see what they diagnose? Any other thoughts?

I can't access the EPC website on my mac to check my 2007 C230. My mechanic thinks it has the balance shaft issue and I would like to confirm. The VIN is WDBRF52H17E027970. Thanks!

There are no choices concerning the proposed settlement. The proposed settlement is:
- for 8 years or 80,000 miles (whichever is less) from the In Service Date, MBUSA will pay 70% of the "reasonable" [as defined by whom? MBUSA?] cost of the repair and
- for 10 years (but over 8 years) or 100,000 miles (but over 80,000 miles), MBUSA will pay 37.5% of the "reasonable" cost of the repair.
Not only did I lose a potential purchaser, I realized that I could not in good conscience sell my car to any friend or relative. Even if I told them about the defect (and took the hit on the price), I would not want to hear later that one of them had suffered the high costs of this repair, let alone had been stranded on the road because of this defect. I was not much more interested in selling to a stranger. A stranger might come after me, as MBUSA customers have come after them. So I could only trade in my C280. (Oddly, there was no mention of this defect at the dealer. I assume it was factored into a lower price they offered me.)
Present owners are the most likely future buyers of an auto maker's products. Compare MBUSA's treatment of their future customers with how Pontiac treated a former landlady of mine. This was 20 years ago, before American auto makers had been humbled. Her Pontiac had a cracked cylinder head. Pontiac had already extended the warranty on this repair to 100,000 miles(!). Her car had 110,000 miles. However, it was not very old. (She had a killer commute.) So Pontiac covered the repair anyway. There is no way that Mercedes should be given a lesson on customer service by an American auto maker!
(Someday I will get around to updating my signature with my present, much appreciated 2015 C300.)
