Between now and the end of the year I need to replace my tires. I've got 61k miles on it and only put on about 5k per year. Here in Eastern NC we never have extreme weather conditions. Besides Michelin,Bridgestone,Continental, and Goodyear I notice many tires with a Japanese or Korean label. Some have a very good rating and come with a lower overall $$$$. Has anyone had any experience with these foreign tires. I'm beginning to see more of them at my local shops. Thanks...

I would not skimp on tires, the only contact your car has with the outside world! Based on objective testing and subjective consumer surveys at tirerack.com, I would confine my choices to Continental DWS, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus, or Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position. The DWS will provide the best all weather performance, including rain and light snow, although somewhat less precise in the dry. The others are excellent in the dry, and still will cope with your winters and rain, but not as oustandingly as the DWS which seems to have some unique snow/rain capability. Any of these are excellent tires, which is about the right standard for tire selection.
I too live in NC. I just installed a set of Conti DWSon my E320 CDI. The prior tires were Firestone Wide Oval summer tires. I like the Conti's much better and the price at Discount Tire was not too bad. The wet traction is very good and the road noise is low. I have noticed a .3-.4 increase in fuel economy vs. the Firestones.
For about $89 per tire I went with Firestone PZ 900. I like them as much as my Conti and much cheaper. Not sure about long term.... Online reviews are good. They are just as quite so far and traction is the same.
