Crazy enough to work?

Hello again everyone, I recently had an idea to change the one aspect of my car which I like, but could be better. So I am wondering if it is even possible or if anyone has done it before. If so, I would certainly thing about it, if not - no worries.

The interior woodgrain color, as seen above, is the darker green "ash" color I believe it's called. It goes well with the black leather seats, but I've always had a thing for the natural burl color that is more the auburn shade. While I know the trim and door structure was enhanced in the 2007 model year to reduce side-crash forces, is it possible to change this out trim? I can foresee it being quite expensive but I was just wondering if it was feasible. Thanks.

i actually prefer the dark wood on black interior vs the brown one (which i think is better for tan and white/stone interior). i have gray interior and i think either one could go, but i again prefer the black one (more sporty and different).

True - it augments the sporty appeal of the black interior, which goes well with the black exterior I am finding. When I am at the dealer, though, I'll probably ask them how much it would cost in parts/labor.

Changing the wood trim is commonly done in the BMW world - to the point where lots of second hand wood trim is readily available. Those guys love their carbon fiber. Most trim pieces just snap on and off but finding where and how they snap can be a challenge. I'd talk to the dealer, but I'd check something like parts dot com for pricing. One thing I'd like to add to my car is wood trim around the instrument cluster (see link below). Good luck with your project.

Thanks for the input Mike, and fila lol, I will probably leave it as it is for the time being but if in a year or so I get "board" of the green ash color I'll definitely consider changing it up.

what i would do if i where u post-facelift w211 guys is get aN all wood shifter like they have for the CLS's. those are sweet. it's tough for us pre-facelift guys because the leather boot is attached all together and the top piece doesn't come off.

I wouldn't mind changing to a dark brown bamboo, like BMW's. For now, i'll just leave well enough alone also. Unless you want to trade? I have the Brown wood :-)

I might be willing to trade you my burlwood for your dark wood if you can find an easy DIY write up to change it out. I've always thought the black wood would look badass with my light grey interior (ala lexus)

That's the main problem at the moment, finding the time and method of changing it out. I'll certainly keep your in mind though, thanks.

It also can be done through Hydrographics, just as how the ori ginal is done with this process from the factory OWN. It can be changed out to customise to your liking.I have done carbon fiber, word grains, brushed aluminum, and skulls., etc. There are over 1000 different patterns. I will put some patterns up on the thread later top give the odds of the wood and carbon. Let me know of you have any questions.

process from the factory to get three word gain
