Engine mounts

I just had my engine mounts and tranny mount replaced by indy.

Bought parts from part.com all thre mounts $250

indy charged me $200 for labor. it took him about 1hr and 45 min.

i thought that was pretty good deal considering dealer wanted $838

Did he have to pull the exhaust to remove the mounts?

Yes exhaust was pull down to make room to pull mounts out. Other option he said is to drop down suspension ( shocks ) but its more work.

So did you notice less movement while sitting in the front seat, at idle?

W211 Engine mount removal

My '03 e320 has terrible vibrations when accelerating on an uphill and also at idle and mechanic had said that both Engine mounts are shot as well as transmission mount.
Local benz independent shop wanted $500, parts and labor for all 3 so if i can have $300 left in my packet, i'll do it myself!
I ordered parts from autohausaz.com, i think $86 each(Lemforder) and trans. mt was $15, free shipping.
Anyway, i jacked up the car today and removed belly pan.
Passenger side, its impossible to reach top bolt as the combination wrench has only 1/4" movement before hits altenator so you will either need 16mm stubby or either remove the alternator or the exhaust so that you can take the mount out of the car. I opted for removing the alternator as i was going to change the belt anyway.
I placed a piece of 2x4 below the engine oil pan and jacked it up a little so that i can remove the mount, then i installed new one and put everything back together.
Drivers side is something that i will attempt next but mot likely i'll have to get the exhaust off on that side as i can't even touch the mount from the top.
It does not look nearly as easy as the passengers side but i will have to see that next week.
I'll keep you guys posted.
I also replaced heater fan regulator as the fan stopped working, it took me less then 30 minutes.
Got it at the autohausaz.com as well and it was $126, almost $100 less then local part store and it was an original, no shipping and no tax!

In order to do the job you will have to lower exhaust down to create some space. Don't forget to unplug oxygen sensors when lowering exhaust. If you don't have a car lift job is little more complicated due to crowded space since you will have to unbolt both mounts from bottom.

As the folks at Ferrarichat like to say - "Many can afford to buy a Ferrari, but few can afford to own one."

Can anyone comment if the 06 CDI needs to drop the exhaust as well to change mounts or is it just the gas version?

Cheers,

That's exactly why nobody should buy a car like this used, that couldn't afford it new. I'm sure lots of people buy something used for $30K-$50K, but don't know what they're getting themselves into. If you can't buy parts for the car either at Rockauto or your local parts store, RUN AWAY!!!!! Unless you're trust fund rich, these cars will destroy your wallet in a hurry.
