Angry gps question

My 2006 GPS does not seem to be receiving a signal, no satellites etc. The picture is fine but has me out in the Atlantic ocean off the cost of NJ... Is there a way to trouble shoot this my self and check the antennae connections? Thanks.

You should check the connector from the rear of the Navi processor and specifically the connector at the top, left, front part of the trunk. You could also test the car with another antenna connected to directly to the Navi processor.

Better to remove the left side panel, then you can reach both the intermediate connector and the rear of the navi processor (you'll see how to reach the cables).

I got my fingers to the back of the unit and pushed all the connectors and they all seemed secure. Could this be a unit problem and not a antennae problem? Is there any way to check the connections to the outside antennae? Thanks. I have a tomtom as back up but it pisses me off that this does not work...

You would have to take the wires off and check that there is no corrosion inside, specifically the intermediate connector (actually on a US car it would be a GPS splitter with three wires, one for the tele-aid).

Have a look at your Comand GPS status info, does it show "0" or "-"?

Of course it could be a Navi processor issue but most likely it is a broken antenna. With a temporary antenna you could find out which one is guilty.
