Post Do I not like "real" Mercedes vehicles?

I love the 2 Mercedes that I currently own, a 2006 E320 CDI and a 2011 R350 BlueTech. A friend of mine owns a W124 and says that the R class isn't a "real" Mercedes. I have also read a few articles that talk about Mercedes getting back to its roots and engineering cars the way that it used to. I drove an Audi Q7 yesterday and couldn't wait to get out of it and into my R class.

Then I had a 2012 E class loaner last month and didn't like the way it felt as much as my 2006 E. Then drove a GLK, it felt solid but there's something different about the 2 MB's that I own now, dare I say something sexy? Something that I have never felt when driving a W124, which my local mechanic gives as loaners.

Which brings me to the question that I've been pondering. If I love my 2 current Mercedes and Mercedes the company is going away from building cars like these in the future (R class getting discontinued in the USA). Then does that mean I fell in love with false Mercedes cars? Do I not like real Mercedes cars? And what do I do if I want to replace my beloved MB's due to high mileage. Who makes the cars that I like?

2009 E350
thats exactly I how feel about current Bimmers. They, among others, are rolling computers. I love the pre Chrysler MB's like the SL's and E's. Cant say that about the current crop of cars from MB. Frankly i think some of the Porsches still retain SOME of those subjective traits.

After driving Mercedes Benz for about 40 years.

My favourites are the R129 SL500, W124 260E, W210 E230 and the 2010 SL350 (forgotten the model number) and the rest have been below board.
I now have a 2011 S350 and is is the greatest car I have ever driven feels solid, smooth and sporty at the same time, you just know it's been engineered to perfection.

I'd agree with the Chrysler statement, most of the cars created during the Chrysler era were a little "off" but a Mercedes none the less!

Having driven many BMW's they are nice to drive, but I don't believe they have the same quality feel as Mercedes do. Saying that I do still miss my E39 5 Series!
