Multi Contour seats not working?

Hello all, new owner of a 2006 w211 E55 AMG

I love the car, but I have come across 1 thing that so far stumps me. The Multi Contour seats are not working. This is both front seats (driver and passenger) They seem to be connected, and getting power, as the "Pulse" and "dynamic" buttons come on (LED light illuminates) but nothing happens. When I try to inflate or deflate the bladders, I get no response. I don't hear it leaking air that I can tell.

Any insights or help would be greatly appreciated!

i'd focus my attention on the air line leading to the pump, or the pump itself.
examine for hose fracture, loose connection, or inoperative pump (working
your way upstream to the source). what other accessories run off the pump
on your model? do they work?

more confused!

So I spent a little more time looking into this today. I pulled out all of the trunk lining, and checked all of the hoses. I DID find one open line, but it doesn't appear to go anywhere. What is MORE confusing, is that I went to check the fuses, just to make sure there is power to the unit. Unfortunately i found that both fuse locations were empty? (13 and 19) 13 has a location for a fuse, but 19 doesn't seem to! Now I'm wondering if it was possible to order the car with the dynamic seat option, but NOT have Multi Contour seats? I know the car had Dynamic seats as an installed option when built, because I have the VIN breakdown of the "as built" (it also appears to be enabled in the car, as when I hit the "Dynamic" button, the dash displays the ON and OFF function) I installed a fuse into location 13, but nothing changes. The car also has the air tank installed in the passenger side of the trunk as I have seen in pictures of other cars..

I have pictures of the rear fuse block if anyone thinks that they might have a CLUE what is wrong here...

Rear SAM f19 is for left/right multicontour seats, rear prefuse (beside main battery - trunk) f87 (40A) left/right dynamic & multicontour. If vehicle is equipped as such, datacard should list codes 404 (multicontour) and/or 433 (dynamic) for driver seat, and 405/434 for passenger.

Thanks for the reply -

Data card lists 433 & 434, but that is all. I assume however that this means I SHOULD have multi contour seats, no?

I found the air line in the attached picture that looks to not be attached to anything? I can't seem to find ANYTHING that this might attach to however?

Also attached is a picture of the fuses near the battery. I can't locate any numbers on them (as to which fuse is what number location)

Codes indicate vehicle is equipped with dynamic inclusive of multicontour. Here is a copy of pre-fuse assignments and pump detail.

Saga continues...

Thanks konigstiger for ALL of your help thus far - I'm actually close, I've had it working for 1-2 minutes, on a few occasions, so at LEAST I know it DOES work!

So I spent some time again this week digging deeper. I verified the electronics, and isolated the issue to the pump housing itself. (seen, wrapped in foam, on the left hand side of the picture "pump box2" I disconnected the box, and removed it from the trunk, and immediately I knew something was wrong, as there were rattles coming from inside.

I cracked open the plastic box, and found all of the items shown in the picture "loose parts". I'm pretty sure I have them back into the "air orifice" in the correct order and orientation - but if anyone has an exploded diagram of the assembly, I would LOVE to confirm it.

It seemed like there may have been some blockage in the output side of the assembly. I blew through it both ways several times (just with my mouth, no compressed air) and now air will flow in both directions.

I re-assembled everything, and tested the unit. It does now output air - even enough for the seats to function as they should for up to about 90 seconds, but then it shuts off. The assembly still leaks a small amount of air from out of the "air orifice" area when the pump is active. Once the pump quits, you can continue to hear air escape from the area, around where the clear plug seats.

My guess is that the small O-ring is not doing enough to keep the thing from leaking air, and there for the pump shuts off after the system has failed to maintain pressure over some set period of time. I have been unable thus far to TOTALLY get the thing to hold air.

I'm also guessing that NO merc tech would have ever dug this deep to find the issue - and that they'll tell me that the only option I have is to replace the entire pump box. I'm thinking that all I need to do is replace the air manifold piece pictured in "bad part" (EA 05 20008?) Though I can find no record of that part .

There's a chance I have the o-ring incorrectly installed or something as well I suppose - but even holding a rag/etc over the orifice does not seem to make it hold air? I'd love to see what this SHOULD look like - as mine was in pieces when I started!!

Anyone have a diagram or part numbers / list? - help GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks
Rian

Post this in the 211 AMG forum?

Used pumps are fairly cheap.

Do you know what the part number is on the actual pump?

Hi headly46,

After all your investigation, do you know of an easy way to turn off the pumps / dynamic seats without turning off the ability to use the knobs on the door to adjust seat placement?

This is the problem I'm been running to:

https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ng-noises.html

Fixing the seats will cost $2,000+, I just want to shut the pumps down.

Ideas?

Thanks
