2003 E500 Transmission troubleshooting
My 2003 E500 with 125,000 miles (transmission is the 5-speed 722.633) stutters when going uphill grades at 40-50 mph. At all other speeds and at rapid acceleration, the transmission shifts perfectly with no jerking or stuttering. The following items have been addressed:
1) Transmission fluid / filter change 6 mo. ago
2) New conductor plate & TCU adapter plug 6 mo. ago
3) New plugs & wires this week (complete set)
4) No error codes found (trans or otherwise) as of today
5) Trans fluid level checked today, visual inspection revealed no coolant contamination, overflow tank is clean as well
6) Did transmission adaptation reset today
Going uphill at 45 mph the stuttering is noticeable; if I have the cruise control on and downshift to 3rd gear (still holding a steady 45 mph) the stuttering stops completely, but returns in 4th and 5th. Any thoughts or suggestions?

My buddy (a technician at M-B) can only offer up that he thinks it's the torque converter. He says the 722.6 trans is robust but they have been replacing a lot of torque converters on 03-05 W211s after the 100,000 mile mark. He told me to just drive it another week and then check for any stored codes again.
