NAV Questions

For those of you with NAV equip'ed E's...

Have you guys been able to "key in" you destinations? It mentions it in the COMAND manual.. but when I try to use the keypad.. it changes discs in my CD changer...

Am I missing something?

Also, I think it's great how the INTRO screen when the NAV turns on shows the disclaimer.. but clears ITSELF in a few short seconds. Other brands (i.e. Lexus) require you to click the screen or hit a key. It's a PITA if you ask me.

Shifter (KG related?)

For those of you with KG, do the lights on the shift gate light up for each gear/mode you are in (i.e. P, R, N, D) or does it light up BOTH P & R in either mode.. and NO light for N, and then lights up for D?

I'm just wondering if this is a KG "feature" or a "glitch" in my car. I'm taking it in tomorrow to address some issues with KG.

Thanks
Peter

I will get the nav replacement in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, I think that your problem in keying in is probably that you need to hit the navigation button before hitting keys to key something into the navigation, just a guess. I am constantly changing stations on the FM when I think I am dialing the phone. So, I learned to hit the phone button first. Hope that helps, just a shot in the dark.

Right, but what button? I am ALREADY in the NAV screen (hit the NAV button). YOu can't enter a destination into the NAV computer from the Audio screen. =)

I have been entering stuff with the arrow keys and it's fine.. just tedious. The manual says to use the keypad... Hmmm.....

Peter,

You only use the keypad for a physical address in a block. Why, I don't know because after you do it shows you a range of numbers (like, per block) and asks you to confirm. Weird.

Otherwise, you have to use the OK and surrounding buttons to tell it what you want. The only real way to use it is to enter stuff while parked and save it as a destination. Then call it up when you need it. As far as "on the fly", well, you better just pull over and enter and save and then navigate. It takes several minutes to enter an actual physical addresss. (Less if you've not been drinking.)

LOL!!! I have entered most of my common "destinations" already... and on the fly.. I'll set it before leaving. Yeah, the block thing is sort of odd... but otherwise the system is very good.

While not the best data entry tool, the keypad approach is an improvement over the one used in Command I. I appreciate the marginal/incremental progress. I'd love to have a voice interface...(my pipe dream for german cars). I have not had Nitro's experience. I have noticed the data base will not find some small towns, but when I scroll around the map, I sometimes find the location. Then I set the general coordinates from the map.
