Transfer Case Fluid for 2004 E500 4matic
Got the notorious rubbing shudder sound at low speed on tight turns this week in my 2004 E500 4matic.
So my local Benz dealer told me it's $400 for the service to drain and refill the transfer case.
Midas told me $114 with synthetic gear and bearing oil which he the guy swears is the same thing as what Mercedes uses.
Local reputable tranny shop said they have just always used Amsoil synthetic ATF in the Mercedes transfer case and it works just fine. $48
Opinions?

Get an Indy to use genuine MB fluid...
you will save compared to the dealer on labor and still be sure it's the correct fluid.
The saving won't be as wonderful, but the peace of mind will be.

It most certainly did but the MB dealer said its partially the transfer case and mostly from the front axle binding on turns. Needs new axles. Getting new axles next week.
