Upgrade Instrument Cluster?

I own a 2006 E500.

I'm looking to replace the original gauge cluster with one that has bigger engine temperature and fuel gauges and comes with a digital clock instead of the original analog clock.

Would any guague clusters from other Mercedes classes or models fit the W211?

Nope. Any W211 cluster SHOULD work except maybe the E55 unit. The only upgrade I know that works is normal cluster to sport package cluster.

If you go that route do not forget to tell him that the IC will have to be version coded and although the IC may have a specific feature the car may not----then what do you do!

I checked a few photos online and the CLS cluster looks great. So how do I go about doing this? Is there a step-by-step DIY guide?

Thanks.

The mechanical portion is rather simple, however if you do not have a mechanic with a recent copy of DAS Xentry with developer mode authorization you will have version/adaption code issues.

A CLS instrument cluster complete with a programmed IC and ECU which I can then take to a local shop and have them install it.

I think you have put the pork before the bone--------you buy the IC and then install, then you version/adapt the new IC to the car.

I think that you are thinking of what was done in the70's where you receive an IC with the mileage that you requested. Oh well some things have changed.

If any one promises what you want, I would make sure that he/she or whatever does not get paid until the IC functions per design. Then see what happens!
