2008 E350 4Matic
MPG for a 2008 E350 4Matic
I've had a 2008 E350 4Matic for six months (Certified Preowned) putting 15,000 miles on it in that time frame. It was a lightly used machine (42,000 miles in four years before I bought it).
The listed MPG is 16 City / Highway / 22 , yet we've averaged 21.8 for the 15,000 miles we've had it. On the two long leg trips we've taken, its averaged 24-25 MPG on interstate highways, at an average speed of 75-85 MPH. In the city (The lovely village of Wichita, KS) it averages 21. I've never reset the mileage so the 21.8 MPG is what we've averaged since we bought it. Is this normal or does the computer have a bias that overstates the mileage? We put nothing it it but 91/93 octane, per the owners manual.
Any observations / comments would be welcome.
Thanks

You're not too far off the mark I don't think I can average about 26 miles per gallon at max on long trips (cruise control, air conditioning on) in my E550 4-Matic, not bad for an all wheel drive car with almost 400 horsepower. That is at about 70mph as well, the M273 and M272 can be decently efficient engines for the power that they deliver, depending on how you drive it of course. In the city I can get about 18-19 miles per gallon over an extended period of time if I drive very frugally, which I don't so I tend to get around 15mpg. I put mid-grade gas which here in Colorado is 87 octane though at altitude it really doesn't matter. I used to do only premium until I talked to both my Indie mechanic and dealership tech.
