So I went ahead and purchased the Mercedes OEM rear license plate bracket.

Part #1408100411 -- Labeled #3 in the diagram.

Anyway, the problem is that once mounted, the bracket doesn't have holes that align with the holes on the DMV-issued plate.

Am I supposed to drill those holes or am I doing something wrong here?

By the way, does the bracket normally come with any screws/bolts/washers/spacers?

When you place the lic plate up against the trunk lid holes do they match. When you place the lic plate on the bracket do they match?? Did you confirm the part number in EPC??

PS the metal gromets(in trunk lid) and screws are seperate part numbers

The mounting plate you currently have is for Asia & Mexico market. Correct U.S. version for your vehicle is 1698170211 associated screws 0019904236 (not included).
