E63 Conversion

There are countless threads on questions about E63 conversions but I finally have (what I think is) enough money to do it properly. Might order from Gary but found overstockauto has them for $450 + shipping. However the local body shop, Eurocollision, wants $500-$600 to paint it - no installation or anything, I would just bring it to the shop and they would paint the part itself...

This seems OUTRAGEOUSLY high, is it? There is no stripping or refinishing or repair needed just a simple paint job. Not sure if I should attempt this myself (I'm sure it would turn out horrible, though I have a multi-thousand dollar spray gun used for cars but absolutely zero experience) so I am not sure what to do. Any advice?

Thanks.

you have a multi-thousand dollar gun with no experience but won't pay $600 to spray a bumper...?

get it painted and install it yourself. You can go through your trial/ error stage with your stock bumper

That's what I was thinking desired_speeds, it is probably just worth the extra cost to make sure it is perfect.

@Crafty Well it is my father's spray gun and he has some experience in car painting but his skills are rusty and mine are non-existent. The spray gun is of automotive-use quality but is used for different things right now around his shop (he is a hobbiest woodworker and craftsman in his spare time). I WOULD pay $600 to spray a bumper but I just want to make sure I'm not getting ripped off, because truly that means the paint job is more than the bumper itself which just seems a little ridiculous. Being a high school student $600 is a lot I don't care where you are from. Yes, I do have a job/business I am building right now I can't use it as my personal piggy bank so whatever money I do have for my car that isn't tied up I try to be very careful with. Hope you understand.

Might just put of the E63 front conversion for now... do some of the other mods on my list first.

you are buying aftermarket bumper so thats why the paint is more expensive

$600 is def retail price, but for $600 they should be painting it with top end paint and clear... but does not sound unreasonable a lot of shop will quote you around that.

i have a painter i have been with for my last 4 builds... he painted my AMG front for $130

Okay that's what I wanted to check. You lucky man, $130 is really around what I want to pay but I guess it's not possible right now, so may as well get some of the other mods out of the way and hopefully by the end of the summer have the E63 bumper ready.
