2005 E 500 4Matic 2010 GL 450
service after 2500 miles

I bought a 2005 E500 with about 62,000 miles on it about 2.5 years ago. It currently has 72,000 miles on it. The last service was a service E in October 2011 and since then we have put on about 2,500 miles (my wife drives it to the train station every day, a round trip of 3 miles). The car is telling me we are due for a Service C, based clearly on time elapsed and not mileage. Since the mileage between servicing is so low, do I need to get service? Can I wait?

I think you should get the service. Fluids break down over time and its been over a year already. Especially since the car is used for short trips, the engine doesn't get to operating temp and moisture tends to build up in the crankcase.

Change the power steering fluid, and be sure to follow the spec in the owners manual.

Unless you have driven through heavy traffic area every day, 2500 miles is too early. I would change transmission fluid or differential oil if you'd like to do something for her.
