Tow Alarm Button

Can anyone tell me how the the tow alarm button on the rear view mirror is supposed to work? Once the engine is off, I hit the button and the light turns on for about 2 seconds and it goes out. If I hit it again, it does the same thing. How do I know if it is off or on?

it does the same thing for me, i dont know why, i guess its a bad design, because im sure everyone would want it off, but when it lights up, then goes away, it can be disarmed.
