Driver's door issue

Hey guys, I have a rather peculiar issue with my Merc 2003 E220CDI W211. The driver's door is playing some sort of game with me. The central locking, the electric windows, the side view mirrors controls and the boot knob work just fine. On the other hand, when I open the door, the interior lighting won't turn on (the button on the unit is turned on and it goes on for all other doors). Also, the board computer won't tell me if I start driving with an open driver's door, although it beeps for all other doors. What I've noticed as well is that the lighting under the door doesn't work either. Ah, and the alarm, which is set to auto engage if I unlock the car, but don't open any doors within 30 seconds, auto engages after 30 seconds if I only have the driver's door opened.
I tried to search the forums for a similar problem, but couldn't find anything useful.
I would really appreciate your assistance on this one. It is not a serious problem but I hate it when there is something wrong with my car, even if it is the tiniest detail.
Cheers!

The part number for the door jamb switch is...

A1688201910 for the left-front (LHD driver's) door. A1688201910 for the right-front door. They are a whopping $8 or so, so you'll want to shop around. ;-)

The door switch for the driver is one-third of the way up the "B" pillar, just below the door catch mounted on the body of the car. i.e. It is pressed by the rear edge of the door when closed, not the front edge. It's black. Open the door and you'll see it. Push it in and out and observe what does or doesn't happen. Remember there may be a time delay on you interior lights.

Hey guys, thanks for the input. I found the door switch (not at all difficult to locate) and I have the strong suspicion that this little bugger is the problem. I'll call my MB dealer tomorrow and order the part. Do you know how to change it? Don't want to sound cheap or anything but it seems like it is a relatively simple job and if I know my Mercedes dealer they will probably charge me 50 to 100 bucks.
And again, thanks for the help.
