Now I am being told that since the car had been in an accident (no major damage—new bumper, lights, hood realignment), it has far less value and I will have to pay a penalty for returning it in "less marketable condition."

Has anyone ever heard of this? Even when you return a car at the end of the lease period, I have never known of anyone charged for such a thing as long as the automobile has be properly repaired.

Feedback—PLEASE!

What kind of accident did you have. How did the dealer know about it. Did you have it repaired thru the dealer? If so, that doesn't say much for the dealers work.

It sounds like you have a bad actor for a dealer. They tried to rip you off on the registration. I mentioned that a dealer was trying to charge a customer $750. for registration to the General Manager when I picked up my replacement. He was pissed off...he said that it is as clear as a bell that MB picks everything up.
